MISA salutes Chevaan Abrahams, the garage worker who helped a woman to deliver a baby!
MISA, the Motor Industry Staff Association, is proud of Chevaan Abrahams, a garage worker, who helped a woman give birth to a baby.
The 21‑year‑old petrol attendant at a Shell garage in Kuils River became an overnight hero when a pregnant woman in active labour arrived at the station. Having walked from a nearby farm to seek help, she turned to the garage staff because she could not call paramedics. In the latest MISAtv episode, Chevaan tells us what happened.
Instead of panicking, he acted with courage and helped her. He delivered a healthy baby boy right there on the forecourt. His quick thinking and bravery turned a moment of crisis into a story of hope. In gratitude, the mother named her child Jordan Chevaan Bantam, ensuring that his name will live on in the life he helped bring into the world.
South Africans have responded with overwhelming support. Through a BackaBuddy campaign, Chevaan has already raised more than R80 000 to pursue his dream of becoming a paramedic. His determination to turn this extraordinary experience into a lifelong calling reflects the spirit of resilience and compassion that defines our communities.
“I’m grateful to people in South Africa, if it was not for them, I would not have reached this goal. I am not in a rush. I will take my time and plan so that I make sure that I reach my dream of becoming a paramedic.” Says Chevaan.
According to Martlé Keyter, MISA’s Chief Executive Officer: Operations, Chevaan’s courage shows us that the dignity of work is not only about earning a living, but also about serving with humanity. His heroism is a powerful example of how fuel attendants contribute to the wellbeing of our communities.
