MISA calls on members not to participate in #MarchandMarch protests

MISA, the Motor Industry Staff Association, is calling on all its members not to participate in the protests organised under the banner of #MarchandMarch on 30 June.
This action is not protected in terms of labour law. Any absence from work may expose employees to disciplinary action, including possible dismissal, because this is not a legally protected strike.
MISA reiterates that it does not support violence or unlawful conduct. We call on our members to act responsibly and peacefully, to obey the rule of law and to uphold the fundamental principles of human rights. Our union stands firmly against vigilantism and mob justice, which only deepen divisions and place lives at risk.
MISA recognise that the frustrations driving these protests are rooted in real challenges. High unemployment, crime and the state’s failure to manage borders effectively are undeniable realities. Government has not played a meaningful role in creating jobs or making communities safer, and citizens are justified in demanding accountability. However, unlawful protest action is not the solution.
MISA urges members to hold the state accountable through lawful channels, not through actions that could jeopardise their employment or safety. Taking the law into one’s own hands is a crime and it risks serious injury or loss of life. Our commitment is to protect workers, defend collective bargaining, and promote stability in the motor industry.
“We understand the anger and frustration, but we cannot allow our members to risk their livelihoods by joining an unprotected protest. MISA stands for peace, the rule of law, and the protection of workers’ rights. We call on government to act decisively on unemployment and crime, but we will never support unlawful protest or vigilantism,” says Martlé Keyter, MISA’s Chief Executive Officer: Operations.
MISA calls for peace, accountability, and respect for the law. We urge members to continue building a safer, more just society through lawful means.
