MISA sounds the alarm to donate blood now, before it is too late!

MISA, the Motor Industry Staff Association, appeal to South Africans to urgently donate blood as some blood types of our national blood reserves are critically low with just over two days stock remaining.
This comes after the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) issued a statement confirming that several factors contributed to lower blood collections in recent weeks including fewer blood drives at schools and universities during the examination periods.
The SANBS requires at least 3,500 units of blood daily to meet hospital needs and maintain a five‑day supply. The demand for blood usually increases over school holiday and long weekend periods starting on 23 September. Current collections falling short are leaving the system under severe pressure.
“Donating blood is not just an act of kindness, it is an investment in life itself. In a car accident or medical emergency, it could be you or someone you love who needs blood. By donating today, you ensure that tomorrow’s emergencies can be met with hope and healing,” says Martlé Keyter, MISA’s Chief Executive Officer: Operations.
A single donation, which takes less than half an hour, can save up to three lives.
In emergencies, particularly road accidents, blood transfusions are often the difference between life and death. Yet blood cannot be manufactured, it comes only from those who choose to give.
MISA urges all South Africans to roll up their sleeves and contribute. Blood donation is a shared responsibility that strengthens our healthcare system and saves lives.
MISA believes that by acting together, South Africans can ensure that no life is lost simply because blood was not available when it was needed most.
